Bob Fields is most well-known for his Gun-Box Table. The first time he made it, he had no idea what he was doing and was simply shown a picture of it  by his instructor. In conversation, his boss at work told him a way to make a lid go “poof” when you close it– and that became his challenge.  

The completed Gun-Box Table was no ordinary table. Beautiful in design, with a detailed inlay on the lid, this table would have been a masterpiece by looks alone, but the precision didn’t end with only appearance–

 

Raise the lid high… Let it go… “Poof”… Just the sound of air. 

 

He had made an impressive work of art. He said the only problem is that when “you make one and it’s perfect– everyone expects them to be perfect.” 

 

He’s taken that challenge many times over the years… in fact, he’s donated 27 of those perfect Gun-Box Tables and still doesn’t have one to call his own.
