Rob Redus
Known For
Woodworking
Rob Redus has been a woodworker most of his adult life. He was inspired by his highschool sweetie’s father who was a forester and a woodworker. He started him out on a lathe and he just couldn’t get enough of it. Over the years he’s sharpened his skills through education and continued to be inspired by an association of many fine artists.
Although Rob has many items available in stores for sale and takes custom orders, he says it’s not about the money for him. He enjoys being an artist.
He prefers to have someone contact him and say “I want this, but I don’t know how to do it”– It’s the collaboration and the challenge of coming up with new pieces that drives him.
He calls himself “The Accidental Artist.” He says it’s because, virtually every piece that he tackles there’s “an oops moment” and he has to decide if it becomes firewood or if he waits for inspiration…
At that point, he always waits for the inspiration.
He says, “When you have those moments the piece becomes better than you imagine it to be.”
He also says, “There’s as much value in knowing how to repair something as there is and knowing how to do it right the first time”
And that’s what sets Rob‘s pieces apart.
He showed me around his guest house filled with his work and then showed me a couple charcuterie boards he’s working on. There are so many intricate details to every piece. I loved hanging out with Rob and was amazed by every feature of his designs.
I know he would be awesome to work with on a custom piece. DM me for his contact info if you would like more info about where his work can be seen.
